What is South Lakeland Strategic Partnership?
South Lakeland Strategic Partnership (SLSP) is a multi-agency
‘partnership of partnerships’ that is made up of key
representatives from the private, third (voluntary, community and
faith) and public sectors.
What does SLSP do?
SLSP improves local quality of life by getting
as many people as possible to agree and work towards local
priorities. These priorities are captured in a document called
‘South Lakeland Sustainable Community Strategy’.
What are the local priorities?
After looking at information such as local
people’s views and statistics, SLSP has agreed the following
priorities:
- Accessing services

- Children and young people
- Safe communities
- Health and well-being
- Housing to meet local need
- Involving communities
- Jobs, skills and regeneration
- A quality environment
Short-term Focus Issues for SLSP
SLSP itself is focusing its resources on the
following areas in 2009 and 2010:
- Tackling climate change
- Establishing Local Area Partnerships
- Regenerating service centres
- Finding sites for affordable housing
How does SLSP work?
A large number of organisations and
individuals make up the full membership of the SLSP. Many of these
are members are active on SLSP’s task groups – there is one for
each priority. The task groups make sure that things happen
to address the local priorities, including through a Cumbria-wide
action plan called the ‘Local Area Agreement’.
Current projects include:
- Development of an information resource about
services for older people
- Exploring how to better manage the numbers of
second homes in communities
- Using community development to tackle
localised deprivation
